Summer 2019, Directorsound’s Nick Palmer received a Tascam Portasound cassette 4-track from Canada generously gifted to him by a supportive listener, correspondent come friend. This coincided with preparations for Palmer and his family to relocate finally from London back to his native Dorset in August that year.

There began weekly Thursday night recording sessions to tape in a rural kitchen on the edge of Sherborne, north Dorset. Its completion hastened by the Spring lockdown the kitchen doors and windows were thrown open to the countryside, increasingly inviting in life onto tape.

The Kitchen Tapes Vol.1 collects the first 7 months of recordings in this location on this medium.
